Is a seller required to have a gun dealer ship their firearm?
Most sellers are not required to have their own FFL ship their firearm to the buyer’s FFL. Federal law allows ordinary people to ship a firearm across state lines, as long as they ship it to a federally-licensed gun dealer (FFL). According to the BATF:
Any person may ship firearms directly to a licensee in any State, with no requirement for another licensee to ship the firearm…
However, some FFLs have a policy of only accepting shipments that have been sent by other FFLs. GunTab considers it the buyer’s responsibility to confirm that the FFL they have selected will accept the shipment and conduct the transfer. GunTab will prompt the buyer to ask this question.
