Why do bank account payments take 4 business days?
Unfortunately bank account payments take 4 business days to be processed. We agree that’s a long delay, but unfortunately there’s nothing we can do to accelerate it. The problem is the long delay between a payment being initiated, and any “insufficient funds” error to be communicated.
If a buyer had insufficient funds in their bank account to cover their payment, GunTab will not be notified until 11pm the 3rd business day after the bank transfer was initiated. Obviously we aren’t working at 11pm so we must process any insufficient funds notices the morning of the 4th business day. While this might sound excessive, it is the standard behavior of the American bank transfer system.
Like most businesses, we use the Automated Clearing House (ACH) system to conduct bank transfers. This system is over 50 years old and has some major downsides. We’re looking forward to adopting a new payment system when it becomes widely available, but until then we’re stuck with ACH.
